Cat Aggression: Is it Normal Behavior?
It is so instinctive for cats to be predators because they are natural hunters that seek prey. Cat aggression is typical and to be expected. Watch them gaze at birds, stare and meow loudly at a spider or bug on the wall, jump and try to pounce on a real mouse or a mouse toy. It’s very entertaining, but for a cat they are taking their play seriously as they are using their instincts to stalk and catch their prey. This is normal cat behavior as they love to hunt.
Cats in the outdoors or many feral cats seek their own prey to eat, but indoor cats obviously are fed by their owners. Even indoor cats want to get a piece of the action, which is possibly catching a spider or grabbing a mouse toy and biting it a few times! It’s a great way for them to get out of the boredom cycle when they play. As the owner, take out a popular cat toy, such as da bird or a dangling ball or bunches of feathers dangling from a stick. Play with your feline with the toy for at least twenty minutes and they will really get some great exercise and you will redirect your cat’s aggression. All that leaping, running and biting will give them beneficial exercise that is so important for indoor felines. Just make sure you are careful that your cat friend is trained or redirected not to bite you, the cat owner!
